Why Traffic Is Not Showing in GA4
Quick answer
Traffic may not appear in GA4 immediately because Realtime and standard reports use different processing windows. First check your GA4 Measurement ID, active filters and data streams, your project's status, and how much time has passed since launch.
Quick Checks#
- Check your GA4 Measurement ID. Open your project and confirm the ID starts with
G-and matches the property you're viewing in GA4. A Google Tag Manager ID (GTM-...) or a Universal Analytics ID (UA-...) will not track — TrafficCreator requires a GA4 Measurement ID. - Check project status. Your project must show active on the dashboard. Paused, completed, or failed projects do not send traffic.
- Check the report window. GA4 Realtime normally reflects activity within a minute or two. Standard reports (Acquisition, Engagement) can take 24-48 hours to fully process — don't judge delivery by standard reports alone in the first day.
Causes And Fixes#
| Cause | Fix |
|---|---|
| Wrong or missing GA4 Measurement ID | Re-enter the correct G- ID in your project settings, or use Auto-Detect from your GTM container. |
| Looking at the wrong GA4 property or data stream | Confirm you're viewing the property/stream tied to the exact domain you targeted. |
| Internal traffic filter or IP exclusion list configured on your GA4 property | Check Admin → Data Settings → Data Filters for an active "Internal Traffic" filter that may be excluding more than intended. |
| GA4 "Testing" data filter left in Testing mode | Check Admin → Data Settings → Data Filters — a filter left in Testing state is excluded from reports, not just flagged. |
| Judging delivery from standard reports too early | Use Realtime for the first hour, then revisit standard reports after 24-48 hours. |
| Project not actually active | Check the badge on your dashboard. Only active delivers — stopped, Paused today, and Expired all send no traffic. See Understand project status. |
| Session/user counts differ from TrafficCreator's hit count | See Understand sessions, users, page views, and events — these are different metrics by design. |
When To Contact Support#
Contact support if your project has been active for more than a few hours, your GA4 Measurement ID is confirmed correct, and Realtime still shows no activity. Include your project ID, target URL, GA4 property ID, and the time range you checked.
