What Is Social Traffic?

Social traffic refers to visitors arriving at a website through social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn. It can be categorized into:

  • Organic (unpaid) traffic: Visitors from posts and shares.
  • Paid traffic: Visitors from advertisements and promoted posts.

How to Configure Social Traffic

Step 1: Access Project Settings

  • Go to your project by selecting it from your dashboard.
  • Navigate to the project settings by clicking on the settings icon or link.

Step 2: Configure Traffic Type

  • Scroll down to the section labeled "Traffic Type" located in the bottom right corner of the settings page.
  • By default, the traffic type will be set to Direct.
  • Click on the dropdown menu and select Social Traffic from the list.

Step 3: Add Social Links

  • After selecting Social Traffic, a textbox will appear.
  • Input your social media links into the textbox. You can add as many links as you like.

How to Calculate Social Traffic Distribution

If you have just one link to send social traffic to your website, all traffic (100%) will go to that link. If you have two links, the traffic will be split evenly (50/50) between them. With three links, the traffic will be divided equally (33/33/33), and so on. Sometimes, you might want to allocate traffic unevenly, such as 20% to one link and 80% to another.

Optimize Traffic Distribution

  • Ensure the links are specific to posts, articles, groups, business pages, or other relevant pages on social media platforms.
  • Avoid using main pages of social media platforms (e.g., https://www.facebook.com).
  • To distribute more traffic to a particular link, you can enter the same link multiple times.
  • This will ensure more traffic is directed to the duplicated link.

How to Track Social Traffic

Analytics Tools

Tools like Google Analytics and SimilarWeb can be employed to track the source of your traffic. These tools provide detailed insights into how visitors are finding your website and which social media platforms are driving the most traffic.

UTM Parameters

Adding UTM parameters to your social media links can help monitor specific campaigns. By tagging your URLs, you can track the effectiveness of each social media post and advertisement in driving traffic to your site.

Benefits of Social Traffic

Increased Visibility

Social media platforms are powerful tools for driving significant inbound traffic, thereby boosting overall online presence. By sharing engaging content, businesses can reach a broader audience and increase brand awareness.

Enhanced Engagement:

Visitors from social media often exhibit higher engagement rates. Social media users tend to interact more with content, leading to higher conversion rates. This increased interaction helps businesses build stronger relationships with their audience.

Improved SEO

Social signals such as shares, likes, and comments can positively impact search engine rankings. These interactions are indicators of content relevance and popularity, which search engines may factor into their algorithms.
